The spinal column is part of the axial skeleton and its main functions are the protection of the spinal cord and the formation of the main axis of the body, providing support and flexibility. Together with the muscles and tendons around it, it enables trunk and limb innervation and their motor function. The spine is divided into four parts (cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacral), each with multiple vertebrae.  The most common conditions are disc herniations and vertebral fractures that can compromise the spinal cord or motor function, that normally cause pain and/or numbness in the extremities (arms or legs).
