Rui Guerreiro

ORTHOPEDIC DOCTOR -Knee

BIOGRAPHY

My name is Rui Guerreiro. As a teenager I practiced competitive rowing, which aroused my curiosity about sports pathology of the locomotor system. During my medical studies at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, my interest in orthopaedics led me to do a CEMEF at the Orthopaedics Department of the Hospital do Divino Espírito Santo in São Miguel. Having decided which specialty to follow, in 2005 I began my Orthopaedic Internship. Traumatology and the anatomical area of the knee became my main focus. I took part in various courses and internships, most notably the lower limb reconstruction internship at the Royal London Hospital in 2009, under the guidance of Mr. Matthew Barry, and in 2010, in Barcelona, the knee arthroscopy fellowship with Prof. Ramón Cugat at Clínica Quirón, an ISAKOS-approved teaching center, which consolidated my interest in this technique. I also completed a postgraduate course in Sports Medicine at the Portuguese Society of Sports Medicine. I've been an Orthopaedic Specialist since 2013 and a Consultant since 2022, the year I left the NHS. In the 17 years I worked at Reynaldo dos Santos Hospital, I dedicated myself to knee arthroscopy and the treatment of “young knee” pathology, having been responsible for this area from 2018 until I left. Challenged to join the knee team at the Lambert Clinic, with a project focused on my area of expertise, sports knee pathology, I have been working with the clinic since 2022. The constant development and study of innovative techniques in the field, as well as the vast experience of the team and the large volume of patients linked to sport (but not only) are the incentives that encourage dedication to clinical practice, which allows us to achieve the quality of the work we do here.
